likebyregina It has been a while since I last update on our Food Crawl that happened back in January. But here I am, back on track! Candy Tree Dessert was our first dessert stop, after all those savory dishes from Hoi An Cafe, CHAU Veggie Express, and Sushi by Yuji. It is located in South Burnaby, and it specializes in Asian-style desserts, such as waffles, shaved ice, and sweet soup (??), etc. And we were here to try out its Durian Waffle Tower.
After we ordered, we then realized that all six of us are not a fan of durian at all, so I guess this is a food challenge!
After waiting for 10 to 15 minutes, the waffle tower finally came, and the store covered with the scent of durian. Honestly, I am never a big fan of durian or any type of soft-textured fruit. Waffles are freshly made, and the owner recommended us to take our shots quickly before it slanted (she was right!). The waffles are coated with durian spread, and there is a hidden scope of vanilla ice cream under the waffle cone.
I tried a bite of waffle with the durian paste, and I could not stand it anymore (yes, sorry I tried!). Do not get me wrong, the waffles are fresh and crispy, but I just do not like the durian part of it. After “suffering” with the durian waffle tower, the owner told us there is actually the Mango Waffle Tower (!!!), which it uses Australian mangoes.
Overall Impression
Combining the experiences with my previous visits, I highly recommended Steamed Egg with Milk and Waffles! If you are a durian fan, the Durian Waffle Tower is something that you cannot miss. So next time, if you are looking for a hangout place, make sure you drop by!
