Macaron Class at Bon Macaron Patisserie

Macarons are one of the most delicate and difficult desserts to master, and I have failed quite a few times and still wasn’t successful until recently. I got invited to a macaron making class from Bon Macaron Patisserie, and I really enjoyed the overall experience of learning how to make macarons while connecting with other influencers.

Bon Macaron Patisserie offers small, hands-on macaron classes, with a maximum of 12 people, throughout the month. The class is approximately 3 hours long, and students will be able to bring home some tricks and techniques, along with the secret recipe to make perfect macarons. The class also includes a beverage, signature savory macarons, and 30 to 40 macarons to bring home.

Here is a sneak peak of our class. We start off by choosing our own flavours for the macarons. I chose “Blackberry Lime”, because I love its acidity and not being too sweet. The color of the macaron shell is also my favourite color, purple, which makes it perfect to be my type of flavor.

The chef, also one of the owners, Yann Fougere, helps us to go through each step to make perfect macarons. The other owner, David Boetti, along with other chefs are also helping us on the side. So, there is no way to mess up. Due to limited space and equipment, some steps, such as making meringues, are done for us, but they will still show the techniques and tricks for us to try at home.

While waiting for the macarons to bake, we tried the signature savoury macarons, and my favourites are the Bacon and White Truffle & Sea Salt. They are softer and chewier than the sweet macarons, but the unique combination of savoury ingredients inside a macaron is very interesting.

We are impressed with the finished products!

I was impressed by the end results, because the finished products from everyone look beautiful and delicious, as if we made them like a professional. In the end, we share our macarons with everyone, so each of us can get a box of 30 to 40 macarons with assorted flavors. Some of my friends make some interesting flavors, such as Watermelon, Champagne, Crème Brûlée, etc.

Overall Impression

This class is best for team bonding or even for groups of friends. It can be an awesome date idea too. Although we each make our own flavors, I always think food is the best language to connect with each other. The macarons are gluten free and can possibly be dairy-free, so it is catered to more people. I think the most challenging part is piping the buttercream on to the shells. It looks simple, but knowing the perfect amount of buttercream is the most difficult part to control. Overall, I really enjoy the experience and I highly recommend for groups of friends and couples to try this!
