On my last visit to Remi Patisserie, I did not have a stunning experience with the pastries. However, I tried again, and the pastries taste more delectable and I enjoyed them a lot. Though the pop up store is no longer at Moving Coffee, it is now at Paragon Tea Room every Wednesday and Friday from 1 to 6 pm.

Background of Paragon Tea Room

Paragon Tea Room is tucked on Cambie Street, sharing a spacious area with Porto Cafe. Michelle Cheung, the owner of Paragon Tea Room, wants to provide a different experience for all tea drinkers. She believes Tea’spresso can also make a cup of tea as strong as a cup of espresso that can generate enough energy to go through your day. Using the Tea’spresso machines and premium tea leaves, they can craft a cup of tea, with enriched aroma, flavour, and aftertaste, in no time.

Now, the real talk…

I arrived at around 1pm last Friday, and it was a busy day. Although there was not much of a line, customers kept coming and going. There is a wide selection of cakes and pastries, and I can see some regular items on the menu. For example, the signature cloud cake, roll cakes, mango mochi, and flan. Remi also creates new item to infused the tea leaves from Paragon Tea Room to his pastries. I tried two items, Kaya Coconut Mango Roll and Kenyan Black Tea Tart. I also bought my favourite Oolong Tea Misto to pair with the treats.

Kenyan Black Tea Tart / $5 ; Oolong Tea Misto / $4.95

Kenyan Black Tea Tart is absolutely divine. The tart crust is buttery, crispy, and crumbly. The tart is not overly sweet, with a touch of earthiness from the black tea. I love the crisp around the tart because it makes the tart looks less ordinary, as well add some crisp to the tart. The size is perfect to pair with a cup of tea as an afternoon tea treat.

Brewing Tea with the Tea’spresso Machine

I paired the Kenyan Black Tea Tart with a cup of Oolong Tea Misto, recommended by Michelle. And I love it. It is my first time trying tea’spresso, and I am shocked by how flavourful the tea, even with a splash of hot milk. The layers between the tea and milk are beautiful as if you are trying a cappuccino but in tea form.

Michelle also recommends trying the Oolong Tea Misto with Oat Milk, which becomes a new trend in the milk family because it is more nutritious, with less fat. Compared to real milk, the flavour is a bit reminiscent of how milk tastes after cereal sit in it for a while. It is a popular dairy-free, vegan-friendly milk substitute. I tried the drink cold instead, and I love it. It doesn’t have a strong milk flavour, but its creamy texture lends itself well in the drink. I can also taste a touch of sweetness, which is perfect in an oolong tea misto. As a person who loves her skimmed milk, I think I might start trying oat milk from now on!

Kaya Coconut Mango Roll / $6.50

Kaya Coconut Mango Roll is a great addition to the roll cake series, and I love it! Infused with Southeast Asian flavours, kaya is a popular item in Singapore and Malaysia. It is a coconut jam made with coconut milk, egg, and sugar. As per usual, the roll cake is light and fluffy. it has an aromatic and refreshing coconut taste. It also has the perfect portion of cream and fresh mango filling in the centre. Unlike my last experience, the cream this time is airier and light. I can probably eat another one after this slice.

Overall Impression

With my recent visits to Remi Patisserie, I change my impression of their pastries and cakes. Though the desserts are on a pricier side, I don’t mind to return and try the Kenyan Black Tea Tart and Kaya Coconut Mango Roll again. When you pass by this area, make sure to also go and try a cup of tea’spresso from Paragon Tea Room. Many tried and they did not disappoint. It is such an innovative concept, which allows customers to get a better alternative to have their caffeine intake.
