Dine Out Vancouver Festival has returned for its 19th year. This year, I decided to focus on restaurants that offer inexpensive and worthy set menus. We went to Heritage Asian Eatery today to get the $15 meal. It comes with an individual rice plate with two types of meat, along with a black sesame ball for dessert.

BBQ Pork & BBQ Duck on Rice

The Dine Out menu is available for dine-in or takeout. And you can choose two BBQ from soy chicken, BBQ pork, and BBQ duck. The rice plate also comes with kimchi daikon, gai lan, and slow-cooked marinated egg.

Is the Heritage Asian Eatery Dine Out Menu Priceworthy?

The original price for 2 BBQ on rice is $15. So the dine-out menu is basically the same price, with an additional free dessert (black sesame ball). If you are a fan of only one type of BBQ, I recommend getting the dish on its own as it is cheaper. I also found the portion to be slightly bigger when dining in.

What did we Order?

We have been here multiple times for the BBQ Pork Rice. The fat to lean meat ratio is perfect, and the flavor is on point. So we chose BBQ Pork and BBQ Duck for this time’s rice plate.

I enjoyed the BBQ Pork more than the BBQ Duck because the duck meat is quite fatty. BBQ Pork is flavourful as always, and the meat is tender and juicy. I always think gai lan and marinated egg is always a great pairing of BBQ meat on rice (siu may fan, ???). They also provide you with a small container of soy sauce and plum sauce (for duck) on the side. However, I think I would stick with ordering just BBQ pork next time.

Black Sesame Ball

I am surprised with the Black Sesame Ball, and it is delightful. It has a black sesame paste lava filling, with a crispy and chewy texture. It is amazing that the sesame ball remains warm, and the filling is slightly runny after a few hours in the cold. I love how it is not greasy, and I would definitely order this again.

Overall Impression

BBQ Pork on rice is always my #1 choice at Heritage Asian Eatery, and I think it will always be. I might have to try the BBQ Duck another time (maybe dine in) because it could just be the cut I got this time is fattier than usual. I would recommend getting the dine-out menu if you are interested in getting a free dessert. Overall, I am glad that I tried the dine-out menu, as it helps me to explore another new favourite item on the menu, Black Sesame Ball.
