BierCraft Bistro recently launches a new menu, and they are available across three locations – Commercial Drive, Cambie, and Westbrook Village (UBC). The original beer bar is known for its extensive selection of craft and imported beer, particularly the Belgian beer. Few weeks ago, I was invited to try the new menu, and I visited the Cambie location for its spacious interior and sun-laden patio seating.

It is my first visit here, and the patio with light-blue table cloth caught my attention. On sunny days, this is the perfect place to grab a iced cold beer and tapas. It is much dimmer inside, but with more comfortable seating. They also have a large screen where customers can watch live stream sports.

We were greeted with a bowl of curry-flavoured popcorn, which we can snack while deciding what to order. The menu features OceanWise seafood, burgers, sandwiches, as well as main dishes to share. We ordered 4 items, one from each category, to get a full picture of how the food tastes.

Sambal Prawns / oceanwise prawns, sambal butter, white wine, focaccia / $13.50

Sambal Prawns uses OceanWise prawns and seasoned with sambal butter and white wine. It is paired with focaccia. My friend and I love the heat from the sauce, which is excellent to pair with the pillowy and soft focaccia. The shrimps are surprisingly huge and fresh, and we are both satisfied with this great start!

We also got half pound of Marinier Mussels ($14.25, half pound), which cooks in a classic way with shallots, garlic, fresh herbs, butter, and white wine. The mussels are huge and fresh, without a hint of fishiness. I wish we got one pound instead!

The Breslin Roast Beef Sandwich / AAA chunk round, horseradish cream, arugula, caramelized onions, demi au jus / $17

For entrees, we got a sandwich to share, The Breslin Roast Beef Sandwich with yam fries. The portion is great, which I think it is the perfect idea to share with a friend. The beef is tender and moist, which the sauce goes well with it. However, we both didn’t like the bread to be drenched in the sauce, which makes the bread soggy and salty overall. It is better to leave some sauce on the side. The yam fries are delicious, and I think you should try them too.

Braised Beef Stroganoff / pappardelle noodle, braised beef, chipotle demi glace, mushrooms, caramelized onions, pickled jalapeno relish / $17

Lastly, we ordered a pasta to share, Braised Beef Stroganoff. I can never resist on pappardelle, so I am excited to this pasta dish on the menu. The dish is quite heavy, with a chipotle demi glace. The braised beef is tender and juicy. I can probably finish this dish on my own, but just because I love pappardelle so much. Otherwise, it is an awesome dish to share.

Overall Impression

I love most of the items that I tried, except the overly-sauced sandwich. Otherwise, I would recommend all dishes I tried here. I would say it is priced similar as Cactus Club or Earl’s, but definitely better food and beer options. The Commercial Drive and Cambie location is accessible, even by bus. So it is perfect to drink and enjoy moments with your friends, without worrying about how to get back home.
