Grounds for Coffee: Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Buns

From now until October 14, you can get your hands on the October-flavored Cinnamon Buns from Grounds for Coffee, a cafe with the best cinnamon buns in Vancouver. Talking about October, the flavor must be Pumpkin Spice. You can get them in both Alma or Commercial location, and they each have a different vibe. Alma is cozy and perfect for a relaxing afternoon, while Commercial is more modern-looking and such a great space for work.

I am glad that Grounds for Coffee opened a new location on Commercial, so it is much closer to me! Once I stepped in the store, it is covered with a sweet scent of cinnamon, as if I am surrounded by fluffy, soft cinnamon buns. On an weekday evening, they are quite packed with people chilling and working.

To be honest, I haven’t eaten cinnamon buns since high school because I found them quite heavy and sweet. So after many years, this is the first time trying them again. The cinnamon buns here are huge, so you can probably share with a friend. They are soft and fluffy, especially if you are lucky to get the ones fresh from the oven. The cinnamon sugar are evenly coated between layers, so they are perfect to pair with a cup of coffee.

Instead of the regular cream cheese frosting, the October special comes with the Pumpkin Spice Frosting. I recommend putting a thin layer of frosting before warming it up, so the cinnamon bun will be coated nicely with melted frosting! The pumpkin flavor is quite strong, and it tastes good with the cinnamon buns. Though it is not my type of flavor, my colleagues love them. They were gone in no time – perfect breakfast treat in the office.

Overall Impression

I got to say the Cinnamon Buns are beautifully done, and I can see why Vancouverites love them so much. They are soft and fluffy, especially when they are fresh! I am probably not a frosting-type of girl because I’m not used to the sweetness. But my colleagues love the buns AND the frosting! If you pass by any of the store, grab the Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Buns before they are gone until next year.
