On to my second stop with the Feast: Asian Dining Festival, Mr. and I decided to try out an authentic Korean restaurant next to Deer Garden on Alexandra Road – Mr. Bro Korean Bistro & Izakaya. From now until November 18, you can enjoy a set for two for just $48. Keep reading to see what it includes!
I always walk past Mr. Bro Korean Bistro & Izakaya, but I never tried it until now. It is an authentic Korean restaurant that offers a wide selection of family-style dishes. It also offers Korean-style hotpots for sharing. During the Feast Festival, they are offering a $48 special set for two people.
The $48 set menu includes a house green salad, sweet & sour chicken, royal pan-fried glass noodles, grilled spareribs, and two choices of drinks.
To start off the night, we chose Grape Bong Bong and Pear Juice as our drinks. They arrived in mini cans, and we love how they have bits of pulps and are not too sweet.
The House Green Salad has apple slices, lettuce, and orange slices, along with a unique banana dressing. I didn’t know it was banana dressing until reading the menu. The hint of sweetness of the dressing balances the citrus fruits in the salad.
The Royal Pan-Fried Glass Noodles (or Japchae) has beef slices and mushrooms in it. It tastes delicious, but nothing too special about it.
The Sweet & Sour Chicken is my favourite dish of the night. It has pan-fried rice cakes and dried cranberries as garnish. Though the batter is slightly soggy, the flavor of the sweet & sour chicken is spot on. The addition of the rice cakes gives a huge contrast of texture in the dish! I would definitely come back for this dish.
Last but not least is featuring the signature Grilled Spareribs. It is served on a sizzling plate, but Mr. was disappointed in how the dish isn’t sizzling when it arrives. Anyway, the spareribs are boneless, tender, and flavorful, but it is on a dried side. I think it would taste delicious when eating it with a bowl of steamed rice.
Thanks once again to our 2020 Subaru Outback for bringing us here. Backup camera might be a basic feature for a car nowadays, but it is very useful especially when I am in a tight parking lot like the one where Mr. Bro Korean Bistro & Izakaya is. It also comes with the backup sensor, so you can be more alert and easily prevent hitting anything around you.
Overall Impression
Alexandra Road is filled with hidden gems. After this dining experience, I am going to include Mr. Bro Korean Bistro & Izakaya on my to-go list. It gets packed around 7 pm, so make sure to go early to prevent line ups. This set is worth the price and definitely feeds two people. I would recommend the set to people who have never been here before. Otherwise, you can order individual dishes or other combos on the menu, which I think they are also reasonably priced.
