CAVU Kitchen Bar: September Special Big Mac N Cheese Burger

CAVU Kitchen Bar recently got rewarded as the Best Burger in Vancouver by Le Burger Week. The feature burger is a September Special, Le Big Mac N’ Cheese Burger. It is a playful twist to two classics – mac ‘n’ cheese and burger. Last week, Mr. and I tried this burger, along with one other burger that I really enjoyed on my last visit.

CAVU offers a wide selection of cocktails, wine, and non-alcoholic beverage. We ordered a glass of apple and orange juice to start our day.

Le Big Mac N’ Cheese Burger comes first, and it is served with fries. You can also substitute it with salad or soup. Instead of a regular bun, the chef uses deep-fried mac ‘n’ cheese as the bun. They burger comes with 8 oz beef patty, applewood smoked bacon, and armstrong cheddar & raclette cheese. The portion is bigger than I expected. The “bun” itself is crispy yet bland, but the flavor is perfect when enjoying it with the beef and bacon. Although the burger is creative, it is quite heavy. I prefer the classic baked mac ‘n’ cheese with bacon bits instead.

For the second burger, we chose the “Which Came First” Burger aka the Viv. The brioche bun comes with the spicy fried chicken, sunny side up egg, swiss cheese, chipotle aioli, and southern slaw. I really like the spicy fried chicken here, because it is crispy with the perfect amount of batter. The heat gives a nice kick to the burger. The addition of sunny side up egg just instantly makes it like a breakfast burger, and it can quite messy eating it!

Overall Impression

I don’t often eat heavy lunches, so Le Big Mac N’ Cheese Burger might be too heavy for me. We have half mac ‘n’ cheese bun and fries as leftover. The “Which Came First” Burger is definitely more my type of burger – flavourful, with different texture, and spicy. After our burgers came, the table next to us also ordered the same burgers and enjoyed them.
