Pink Strawberry Tiramisu Recipe for White Valentine’s Day
Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert made with layers of ladyfingers soaked in coffee and layered with a mixture of mascarpone cheese, sugar, and eggs. This Pink Strawberry Tiramisu adds a fruity twist with the addition of strawberry rose jam, making it a perfect dessert for any occasion. With this recipe, you can make two individual servings of this delicious dessert, perfect for a romantic dinner or a dinner party.
In this recipe, we use strawberry milk to soak the ladyfingers, making the dessert kid-friendly and adding fruity sweetness. To prepare the strawberry milk, we combine milk and strawberry rose jam. This step ensures moist and flavorful ladyfingers, creating a perfect contrast to the creamy mascarpone mixture. Using strawberry milk is a great alcohol-free alternative for families with young children or those who prefer not to use liquor in their desserts.
Ingredients of Tiramisu
- Egg yolk: a rich and flavourful component of the mascarpone cream mixture.
- Powdered sugar: a fine sugar that dissolves quickly and evenly in the cream mixture. I would not recommend substituting it with regular sugar, as it may affect the creamy texture.
- Mascarpone cheese: a soft, creamy Italian cheese that adds a tangy and rich flavor to the cream mixture.
- Strawberry rose jam: a homemade, sweet, and fragrant jam that adds a fruity and floral note to the cream mixture and ladyfinger soak.
- Milk: helps create a creamy consistency for the ladyfinger soak.
- Ladyfingers: a light and airy biscuit that soaks up the strawberry rose jam-infused milk and serves as the base of the dessert.
- Pink Biscuit Crumbs: a sweet and crunchy topping that adds a touch of pink color and strawberry flavor to the dessert. It’s a limited-edition Japanese snack that I found online. You can substitute it with any biscuit crumbs or freeze-dried strawberry powder.
Does Authentic Tiramisu Contain Whipping Cream?
Traditional Italian tiramisu does not contain whipping cream. The creaminess in the dish comes from the mascarpone cheese and the whipped egg yolks. In this recipe, only egg yolks are used.
Using Double Boiler Method
Authentic tiramisu contains raw eggs, but I prefer not to take the risk, even if there is only a slight chance of salmonella. However, adding egg yolks can create a rich and airy texture that cannot be replicated with other ingredients. Therefore, I recommend using the double-boiler method to pasteurize the egg yolks.
The double boiler method gently cooks delicate ingredients, like egg yolks, without direct heat. In this recipe, egg yolks and powdered sugar are whisked together and placed in a metal bowl over hot water to create a double boiler. The mixture is whisked continuously until it thickens, taking about 2-3 minutes. This pasteurizes the egg yolk, creating a safe and smooth base for the mascarpone cream mixture. It’s a crucial step for both safety and texture in this recipe.
