Easy Cured Meat Rice (Rice Cooker Version)
It’s fascinating how rice cookers have evolved over the years, becoming multifunctional and incredibly easy to use. I never owned a rice cooker until recently, and I’m amazed at how versatile they are. Today, I’ll be making an easy Cured Meat Rice using the Panasonic Rice Cooker SR-JMY188. This simple and delicious dinner will be ready in no time.
What is Cured Meat Rice?
Cured Meat Rice is typically a sticky rice dish cooked in a clay pot, featuring Chinese cured meat, dried shiitake mushrooms, dried shrimps, dried scallops, and more. These ingredients are readily available in Asian supermarkets. I’ll also provide information on where I purchased the ingredients below in the recipe. Chinese cured meat can come in various forms such as pork, chicken, duck, or even fish, with Chinese sausages being the most common.
A Family Favorite Recipe
Today, I’m sharing a recipe created by my mom, which happens to be my favorite rice dish. Unlike the traditional version, my mom uses white rice in this recipe, making it a healthier option compared to sticky rice. This allows us to enjoy it guilt-free. The ingredients added make the dish incredibly flavorful and aromatic.
Cured Meat Rice

- 2 cups white rice
- 7-8 dried shiitake mushrooms
- 2 Chinese sausages (pork)
- ¼ cup dried shrimps
Instructions
- The night before, wash the dried shiitake mushrooms and soak them in water overnight.
- Do not discard the soaking water. Remove the shiitake mushrooms and set aside the water.
- Use scissors to remove the mushroom stems, then cut the mushrooms into cubes.
- In a small bowl, soak the dried shrimps for 5-10 minutes.
- Roughly chop them into smaller pieces. If the dried shrimps are small, you can leave them whole.
- Cut the Chinese sausages into small cubes.
- In the rice cooker, add 2 cups of white rice and wash thoroughly.
- Add the reserved mushroom water up to the 2-cup mark on the rice cooker.
- Place the Chinese sausage and shiitake mushrooms in a small bowl.
- Place the bowl in the steamer tray that comes with the rice cooker.
- Select the “white rice” setting on the rice cooker and press start.
- Once the rice is cooked, mix the Chinese sausage and shiitake mushrooms into the rice.
- Ready to serve. Enjoy your delicious Cured Meat Rice!
